The Hackathon

2020 was, well, 2020.

Make the world a better place

Let's build a better, more positive future and start 2021 off on a good note. Use Google Cloud and MongoDB technologies to create an app that makes a positive difference in the world.

At this hackathon we want you to create solutions that are socially responsible, address sustainability, wellbeing or connect individuals with the tools to promote general welfare. Create something to make the world a better place for yourself, your co-workers or your friends and family.

The Challenge

Your hackathon projects will focus on one of the following challenges:

Challenge Statement #1 - Hacking for Good

The world is changing faster than ever and continues to evolve due to factors like climate change, invasive species, pollution, human error, and waste. You are tasked with creating a solution that integrates Google Cloud and MongoDB Atlas while improving the world in areas of sustainability and social responsibility.

Can your solution:

  • Promote general welfare for enterprises?
  • Connect enterprises with appropriate charities?
  • Provide assistance or support to a cause?
  • Calculate enterprises’ carbon footprint in 2020 vs. 2019 and predict the 2021 footprint to identify areas to lower carbon footprints beyond 2021?

Challenge Statement #2 - Mental Wellness

2020 has been a challenging year for our mental health. We have faced situations and circumstances that have caused distress both emotionally and mentally. From individuals feeling isolated due to Covid quarinting and environmental stress/pressures to navigating the world of unemployment or even feeling the stress of juggling personal responsibilities and working from home, there is opportunity to provide support on many levels.

Can you create a solution geared towards improving social interactions or connecting people with support in areas they might need in their daily lives? Can your tool promote or aid mental health and well being by leveraging the power of Google Cloud and MongoDB Atlas?

Challenge Statement #3 - Sentiment Analysis

We are constantly processing fake news, negative news, and news that causes us to feel pressure to conform to agonizing social standards. All of this can lead to physical or mental anguish and burnout. Using Google Cloud and MongoDB Atlas, create a solution that can mitigate this negative information in favor of more positivity. Your solution should promote positivity, mental wellbeing, and improve general welfare.

Challenge Statement #4 - The Wildcard

Do you have a solution that encompasses all the challenges above? Do you have an idea that is completely out of the box, but still addresses social responsibility, sustainability, mental wellbeing, and/or connects individuals with tools to promote general welfare? If so, the Wildcard challenge is for you! Use Google Cloud, MongoDB Atlas, and your own technology with your developer skills to create a unique and useful solution!
